Description
The SPRIII is built for precision rifle work at extended ranges — it suits the shooter who wants a purpose-configured AR-15 rather than a general-purpose carbine that has been stretched toward accuracy. The platform traces its lineage to the MK12 Special Purpose Rifle, and Daniel Defense has retained the core features that made that design effective while updating the furniture and controls for a modern shooting context.
The 18-inch stainless steel barrel runs a rifle-length gas system, which spreads the dwell-time pressure curve across a longer travel distance than carbine or mid-length arrangements. The practical result is a slower, smoother bolt carrier impulse that reduces felt recoil and keeps the muzzle from moving as aggressively between shots — both meaningful factors when calling your own impacts at distance. The barrel carries a DLC finish over the stainless substrate, which adds surface hardness and resists the corrosion that bare stainless can develop under field conditions. A 1-in-7-inch twist rate stabilizes heavier projectiles effectively, making the rifle well-suited to 77-grain and heavier match bullets that long-range .223/5.56 shooters typically favor, though it handles standard-weight loads without issue.
The 15-inch RIS III handguard is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and accepts M-LOK accessories along its length. Its integrated ARCALOCK bottom panel is a continuous rail compatible with ARCA-standard tripod heads and similar precision-shooting support hardware, which eliminates the play that comes from adding a separate ARCA rail clamp over M-LOK. A Geissele Super Semi-Automatic trigger provides a two-stage pull with a consistent break. The Magpul PRS Lite stock adjusts for both length of pull and comb height, which matters when switching between bare-eye and optic-mounted shooting positions. The lower receiver features fully ambidextrous controls throughout. No sights are included, leaving optic selection entirely to the shooter.
