The DD5 V4 in 7.62x51mm NATO is built for shooters who want a capable large-frame semi-automatic rifle for precision work at distance — hunters, long-range competitors, or anyone who wants a .308 platform that handles suppressed fire without retrofitting. This is not a generalist carbine pressed into long-range duty; it is designed from the outset around the demands of that role.

The 18-inch cold hammer forged barrel is chrome-lined and made from Daniel Defense proprietary steel. That process — forcing a mandrel through a rotating blank — produces a bore with dense, work-hardened surfaces that resist wear and maintain consistent dimensions over high round counts. The rifle-length direct impingement gas system, paired with a user-adjustable gas block, is central to how the DD5 V4 manages the transition between suppressed and unsuppressed fire. A longer gas system spreads the pressure curve over more dwell time, which softens the bolt’s rearward impulse compared to shorter carbine-length arrangements. The adjustable block lets you tune cycling behavior for each configuration rather than accepting a compromise setting that favors neither.

The 1-in-11 twist rate is matched to standard .308 and 7.62 NATO projectile weights — heavier match bullets in the 175–185 grain range stabilize well at that pitch without the over-stabilization that a faster twist can impose on lighter loads. The bolt carrier group is superfinished and DLC coated, which reduces surface friction and makes carbon deposits easier to remove. Daniel Defense’s 4-Bolt Connection System locks the upper and lower together at four contact points rather than two, which tightens the mechanical relationship between the barrel and the rest of the platform. The DD5 Rail 15.0 with M-LOK attachment positions accessories without adding bulk, and the GRIP-N-RIP ambidextrous charging handle includes anti-gas features relevant when running the rifle with a suppressor. The 5/8×24 threaded muzzle is the standard pitch for .30-caliber suppressor mounts.
