Description
The DD5 V4 is Daniel Defense’s large-format semi-automatic rifle built for precision work at distance — hunting, long-range target shooting, or any role where .308 / 7.62 NATO and reach matter more than compactness. It fits shooters who want a gas-operated AR-pattern platform in a serious caliber without stepping outside the ergonomic language of what they already know.
The 18-inch barrel sits in a useful middle ground: long enough to extract meaningful velocity from the .308 case and to provide a stable sight radius, but short enough to remain manageable in field conditions. That length also supports a rifle-length or intermediate gas system, which meters pressure later in the bullet’s travel and spreads the recoil impulse over a longer cycle — the net result is a softer, more linear push compared to what a carbine-length port produces in the same caliber. The 1-in-10 twist rate is well matched to the full range of standard .308 projectiles, from 147-grain FMJ through heavy hunting and match bullets in the 168–175-grain range, without over-stabilizing lighter loads.
The furniture and handguard are Daniel Defense’s own — the M-LOK rail interface on the handguard lets you mount accessories without permanent modification, and the Milspec+ Brown finish is applied to both the metal and polymer components for a consistent appearance that also resists corrosion. The rifle ships with one 10-round PMAG, and the 10+1 capacity reflects a standard configuration rather than a reduced one.
