Description
The DDM4 V7 in Cobalt is Daniel Defense’s answer to a general-purpose, do-it-all AR-15 — equally at home as a duty rifle, a serious range tool, or a primary home-defense carbine. It is built for shooters who want a factory rifle that genuinely needs nothing added to function at a high level, while still leaving room to configure it exactly as they see fit.
The cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel runs a mid-length gas system rather than the carbine-length system found on shorter builds. That extra dwell time and the longer gas tube reduce the bolt’s unlocking speed, which translates directly into softer perceived recoil and measurably less wear on the bolt carrier group over a long service life. The 1:7-inch twist rate stabilizes the full range of 5.56 NATO projectiles, including heavier 77-grain and 75-grain loadings that a slower twist would fail to stabilize reliably — useful for anyone pushing the cartridge toward its effective ceiling.
The MFR 15.0 free-float handguard uses M-LOK attachment technology along seven positions, keeping weight down compared to a full Picatinny rail while still giving plenty of attachment real estate for lights, grips, and slings. The uninterrupted top rail accepts any optic or iron sight the shooter prefers — and because no sights are included, there is no cost wrapped up in hardware you may not want. The ambidextrous safety and GRIP-N-RIP charging handle make the control layout genuinely usable from either side without modification. Upper and lower receivers are CNC-machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with Type III hard coat anodizing, and the whole rifle ships in a Daniel Defense full-latch impact plastic case with one 32-round magazine.
