The DDM4 V7 Pro in Cobalt is Daniel Defense’s answer to a specific question: what does a precision-oriented AR-15 look like when built around an 18-inch barrel rather than the standard carbine length? That extra barrel length serves a purpose beyond raw velocity. A longer gas system — mid-length or rifle-length configurations generate a slower, more progressive pressure curve as gas enters the system, which translates to reduced bolt carrier velocity and a noticeably softer recoil impulse compared to the sharper, more abrupt cycle of a carbine gas system. For a shooter running a suppressor or spending extended time behind the rifle on a bench or in a support position, that difference in felt recoil compounds over a range session.

The 1-in-7-inch twist rate is optimistic about bullet weight. It stabilizes heavier projectiles reliably — 77-grain and 80-grain open-tip match bullets that a slower 1-in-9 twist would fail to properly stabilize — which makes this barrel well suited to handloaders and match shooters who already work in that range. Lighter 55-grain loads will shoot fine, but the barrel is clearly optimized for the upper end of the .223 Rem/5.56 NATO weight spectrum.

The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, which covers the full range of common flash hiders, compensators, and suppressors in that pitch. The barrel carries a black phosphate finish, which provides corrosion resistance and holds lubrication well at the gas port and bore interface. The rifle ships with a single 32-round magazine and no sights mounted, leaving the optic choice entirely to the shooter — a sensible decision on a rifle clearly intended for glass rather than irons. The ambidextrous safety selector makes the control layout equally workable for left- and right-handed shooters without requiring any modification.
