Description
The DD5 V4 is Daniel Defense’s answer to a specific problem: getting the most out of 6.5 Creedmoor in a semi-automatic AR-10 platform without giving up the handling that makes ARs practical in the field. The rifle is built for precision work at distance — whether that’s hunting medium to large game or stretching out at the range — and it suits a shooter who wants a purpose-built long-range semi-auto rather than a general-purpose carbine with a longer barrel bolted on.
The 18-inch barrel occupies a deliberate middle ground. It recovers most of the velocity that a 24-inch bolt gun would develop, while keeping overall length manageable enough for field carry. A 1:8-inch twist rate gives the barrel the angular momentum needed to stabilize the heavier, high-BC projectiles that make 6.5 Creedmoor effective past 600 yards — think 140-grain match bullets and heavier hunting loads — without being so fast that it creates problems with lighter options. The muzzle is threaded at 5/8×24, the standard pitch for this caliber, so a suppressor or muzzle brake threads on without an adapter.
The barrel carries a Black Phosphate finish, which provides corrosion resistance and holds up to field conditions without requiring the maintenance that a bare-steel surface would demand. The rifle ships without sights, which is the correct call for a dedicated precision platform: a shooter choosing this rifle already knows what glass they want on it, and a bundled sight would add cost and weight without adding value. The included 20-round PMAG gives you a usable starting point for load development or field use from the first range session.
