Description

The Daniel Defense M4A1 FSP Upper Receiver Group is built around the USSOCOM SOPMOD Block II configuration, making it a logical choice for shooters who want a service-proven platform rather than a commercial approximation of one. The upper ships complete with a bolt carrier group, sights, and handguard, so it can be mated to a stripped or complete lower and put to work without sourcing additional components.

The M16-profile bolt carrier group runs the full-mass carrier that the direct-impingement carbine-length gas system was originally tuned around. A carbine gas system generates a shorter, sharper pressure pulse compared to a mid-length arrangement, which tends to mean a slightly more abrupt push at the shoulder — something to account for when selecting a buffer weight on the lower half. The 1:7 twist barrel stabilizes heavier projectiles reliably, including 77-grain open-tip match loads favored for precision work at distance, while still handling standard 55-grain ammunition without issue.

The barrel is cold hammer forged from chrome moly vanadium steel and chrome lined, which preserves the bore under sustained fire and simplifies field cleaning. The upper receiver itself is CNC machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with M4 feed ramps. The Daniel Defense M4A1 FSP RIS II handguard surrounds the barrel in a full Picatinny quad-rail arrangement finished in Flat Dark Earth, giving the shooter rail space on all four faces without add-on adapters. The Surefire SF3P muzzle device is pinned and welded to the 14.5-inch barrel, and it doubles as a suppressor adapter for those running a compatible can. A Mil-Spec F-Marked front sight base and an A1.5 fixed rear sight are included, providing a complete iron sight picture out of the box.
