The EOTech XPS3-2 is built for shooters who need a full-featured holographic sight without giving up rail space. The transverse single-battery layout shortens the overall footprint compared to EOTech’s earlier N-cell designs, which means a rear iron sight or a night-vision mount can sit where the battery compartment used to be — a meaningful trade-off for anyone running a backup aiming system or working in low light.
The holographic operating principle matters here: the reticle is projected onto the target plane rather than the ocular lens, so the image stays on the same focal plane as the target regardless of eye position. That eliminates the parallax compensation you have to apply with a conventional reflex dot, and it means the sight works the same whether your cheek weld is perfect or rushed. The heads-up-display window is the same size carried on EOTech’s longer platforms — nothing is sacrificed in field of view to achieve the shorter body.
The reticle itself uses a 65 MOA outer ring with two 1 MOA aiming dots stacked along the vertical axis. The ring is fast for close-range target acquisition; the dots give you a precise hold for shots where the ring alone would obscure too much. Running both references on one reticle lets you transition between distances without changing the sight picture or adjusting brightness. The single CR123 lithium cell powers the unit to approximately 600 continuous hours at a mid-range brightness setting, and the O-ring tethered cap replaces the older battery latch with a simpler, better-sealed solution. The optic is submersible and the internal optics are fog-proofed, so moisture management is handled whether the threat comes from rain, humidity, or immersion.
