The EXPS3-2 is EOTech’s answer to a single question: how do you get fast, accurate target acquisition from contact distance out to several hundred meters without changing anything about how you shoot. The answer is a holographic weapon sight that projects its reticle onto the lens rather than onto a reflective surface, which means the aiming point stays at the same 1 MOA apparent size whether you’re running it bare or with a magnifier behind it. That distinction matters in practice — a red dot’s dot grows with magnification, so what was 2 MOA at 1x becomes 6 MOA at 3x. The EXPS3-2’s reticle does not behave that way.
The 68 MOA outer ring is large enough to snap onto a target quickly at close range without precise eye alignment, functioning more like a frame than a point of aim. The two 1 MOA dots inside give you a tiered holdover system calibrated for .223 with 62-grain ammunition, providing distinct aiming references at multiple distances rather than forcing you to estimate corrections from a single point. The ring is also useful as a 7-yard reference from its lower edge, which makes it practical for tight-quarters work where mechanical offset is a real factor.
The EXPS3 platform moves the battery compartment transversely and uses a single CR123A, which shortens the overall footprint enough to mount a magnifier directly behind without pushing the sight forward on the rail. The quick-detach lever interfaces with 1-inch Weaver and MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rails and returns to zero reliably. The taller body creates a lower one-third co-witness with standard iron sights, so your irons remain visible and usable in the lower portion of the window. Night vision compatibility spans Generation I through Generation III devices, with ten dedicated brightness settings below the standard daylight range.
