The XPS2-2 is EOTech’s answer to a recurring problem on carbines with folding iron sights or a magnifier behind the optic: a holographic sight that takes up as little rail estate as possible without sacrificing the wide field of view the platform demands. The single CR123A battery sits inside the housing rather than beside it, which is what allows EOTech to shorten the footprint compared to their N-cell designs and still leave room for a backup rear sight or a magnifier directly behind the optic.
The reticle itself does real work. The outer 68 MOA ring lets you bracket a torso-sized target at close range without any conscious alignment — your eye finds the ring and you fire. The two 1 MOA center dots give you a precise aiming reference when distance or target size demands it, so the same optic that gets you on target quickly in a close-quarters context can still be used for deliberate shots at distance. Holographic transmission means the reticle is projected forward through the glass rather than reflected back at the shooter, which eliminates the parallax error that plagues reflector-style red dots and means the point of impact does not shift when your cheek weld varies.
With 20 brightness steps and a scrolling adjustment rather than stepped buttons, you can dial precisely to ambient conditions. The auto-shutdown function — programmable at either four or eight hours — keeps battery drain predictable on a patrol rifle or a hunting carbine that may sit between uses. The sight is submersible to ten feet and fog-resistant, built in the USA, and mounts to any MIL-STD-1913 or Weaver rail without adapters.
