That matters most when hunting at extended ranges, where the same bullet may strike at 3,000 fps from a close shot or closer to 1,800 fps after a long flight — two scenarios that can defeat bullets designed only for one end of the velocity spectrum.

The Slipstream polymer tip is the mechanism that bridges that gap. Federal engineered it to initiate expansion at impact velocities roughly 200 fps lower than comparable designs, which means the bullet opens reliably on a far target where velocity has bled off, without blowing apart destructively on a near one. The tip also flattens the trajectory by improving the bullet’s aerodynamic profile, reducing holdover corrections at distance.

A copper shank and bonded lead core work together to retain bullet mass through penetration. Bonding prevents the core from separating under the stress of impact, so the bullet continues driving forward rather than shedding weight as fragments. The result is a wound channel that goes deep regardless of whether the animal is angled or quartering away. AccuChannel groove technology — circumferential grooves cut into the bullet’s bearing surface — reduces friction and pressure variation during the bore pass, which tightens shot-to-shot consistency and extends barrel life compared to a plain bearing surface of equivalent length.

The 155-grain load leaves the muzzle at 2,930 fps and carries a G1 ballistic coefficient of .586, indicating a sleek, high-sectional-density projectile well suited to bucking wind and maintaining energy downrange.
