Description
The Airborne Charging Handle was developed at the request of an elite military unit whose work involves aerial insertion — a context where snagging gear on a charging handle lever is a genuine tactical problem, not a theoretical one. The result is a shortened lever profile that clears low-profile red dot optics without interference and reduces the number of surfaces available to catch on kit during dynamic movement.
The ambidextrous design allows the shooter to work the handle from either side, which matters during support-side manipulation or when transitioning between shoulders. Both levers are dual-contoured, meaning Geissele machined radius cuts into the vertical and horizontal planes rather than leaving a flat paddle. The handling surfaces are checkered to give a consistent purchase when operating with gloves on.
The raised fence at the rear of the handle does real work on suppressed and short-barreled builds, where gas blowback through the upper receiver is more pronounced. That taller lip redirects the gas pulse away from the shooter’s face rather than channeling it directly rearward. It is not a perfect seal, but it meaningfully changes where that gas goes.
The body is machined from a solid billet of 7075-T6 aluminum — the same alloy specification used in aerospace structural components — and finished in Geissele’s Desert Dirt Color (DDC) hardcoat anodize. Geissele notes that DDC shade can vary between production batches, which is worth accounting for if color consistency across a build matters to you. For a matched appearance, Geissele recommends a secondary finish applied over all parts.
