Description

Standard AR-15 takedown and pivot pins work fine until they don’t — a stubborn detent or a missing punch can turn a simple field strip into a frustrating exercise. Lantac designed the UPS-S to address both problems at once, and the solution is mechanical rather than cosmetic.

The pivot pin incorporates a ramped groove that captures the detent during installation, holding it in place without the usual juggling act. A second ramp, positioned at 90 degrees to the first, allows the detent to ride into the retaining slot when the pin is rotated to the locked position. The result is a pivot pin that goes in and comes out without a punch or a dedicated tool. The takedown pin ships with a 3D-printed rear pin removal tool (RTT) that handles the rear position the same way.

Both pins are machined from 17-4PH stainless steel in H900 condition — a precipitation-hardened grade chosen for its combination of strength and corrosion resistance — then QPQ nitride finished in black. The aggressively crenulated heads give your fingers enough purchase to drive and pull the pins even with gloves on. The set includes KNS anti-rotation detents and stainless detent springs, so you are not sourcing those separately.

There is also a built-in storage feature Lantac calls QuickSafe. By swapping the pivot pin into the rear takedown hole from the opposite side and rotating it so the detent registers in the groove, the lower becomes impossible to assemble with an upper without first removing the castle nut and end plate. It is a quick, tool-free way to render the lower inoperable for storage or transport without adding any external hardware. Manufactured in Fort Worth, Texas.
