Description

The Magpul X-22 Backpacker Optics Mount solves a specific problem that comes with running a takedown rifle: when you break the gun down and reassemble it, any optic mounted to the receiver moves with the action half, and re-zeroing becomes a regular chore. By clamping to the barrel instead, this mount keeps your red dot or reflex sight on the half of the rifle that never changes its relationship to the bore. Pull the gun apart and put it back together as many times as you like — the zero stays with the barrel.

The mount is machined from mil-spec anodized aluminum, which keeps weight low without sacrificing the rigidity a barrel-mounted rail needs to hold zero under repeated handling. It takes the place of the factory barrel block rather than stacking on top of it, so the profile stays low and clean rather than adding unnecessary height to the forend area. The 1913 Picatinny rail section includes a relief cut that lets the factory iron sights remain in the sight line, so you can run a red dot without permanently giving up your irons.

Magpul designed this specifically for the X-22 Backpacker stock on a Ruger 10/22 Takedown. It is not a universal accessory — it replaces the factory barrel block, so fitment is intentional and precise rather than approximate. The rail length and geometry are sized for small red dot sights rather than magnified scopes, which keeps the package compact and appropriate for what the X-22 Backpacker platform is actually used for.
