Description
The Magpul MBUS Gen 2 Front Sight is a folding back-up iron sight built for AR-15 and M16 platform rifles running a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail on the handguard. It exists to give you a functional sighting solution if a primary optic fails, without permanently consuming rail space or adding meaningful weight when stowed.
The sight is color injection molded in Olive Drab Green polymer, which keeps weight low and makes the unit inherently corrosion-resistant — there is no finish to wear through or chip. The spring-loaded deployment can be activated from either side or by pressing down on the top of the sight, so it works regardless of which hand you favor or how you have the rifle oriented when you need it up fast. A detent holds it firmly in the raised position but gives way under a hard impact rather than transferring force to the rail or handguard — a deliberate trade-off that protects the mount at the cost of requiring a manual reset after a knock-down event.
Elevation is adjustable via a tool included with the sight, and the design is matched to the same height-over-bore as standard A2 iron sights, meaning it pairs correctly with an MBUS rear or a fixed A2 rear without requiring a separate co-witness calculation. The Gen 2 redesign reduced the folded profile to roughly half an inch above the rail, which matters on builds where a low-profile optic mount leaves little clearance for anything underneath it when stowed. The protective wings flanking the aperture guard against debris and incidental contact without adding bulk that would interfere with standard rail accessories mounted nearby.
