Description
Standard USGI aluminum magazines are functional, but their flat metal floorplates give you little to grip when you need to strip a mag quickly or pull one from a tight pouch. The Magpul Ranger Plate addresses that directly by replacing the factory floorplate with one that incorporates an integral finger loop at the base of the magazine. That loop gives your index finger a purchase point during emergency reloads and makes it easier to rip a mag free from retention pouches that hold it snugly.
The construction pairs a stainless steel plate with a rubber overmold in Flat Dark Earth. The rubber layer does two things beyond aesthetics: it absorbs some of the impact energy when a loaded magazine is dropped on hard ground, and it adds a degree of friction that can help keep a chambered round from getting rattled loose in a prone position where the magazine touches the surface. The integral floorplate lock means the Ranger Plate installs and removes the same way a standard floorplate does, without tools and without any permanent modification to the magazine itself.
One compatibility note worth knowing before you order: this plate is designed around the USGI 30-round aluminum magazine and will not fit the PMAG. If your rifles run a mix of both magazine types, Magpul makes a separate Ranger Plate variant for the PMAG Gen M3. Each package contains three plates, which is a practical quantity for outfitting a standard loadout of magazines in a single purchase.
