Description
The MDT Field Stock is built for hunters and practical shooters who want a meaningful upgrade over a factory Howa 1500 short-action stock without moving to a full chassis system. It fits the Howa 1500 short action directly, and also accepts Weatherby Vanguard short-action rifles on the same platform.
The core structure is 6061 aluminum, overmolded with a polymer exterior. That combination matters in cold conditions: bare aluminum conducts heat away from your hands quickly, while the polymer shell stays comfortable to hold at low temperatures without sacrificing the rigidity that a metal core provides. The integrated aluminum V-Block bedding system locks the action into a consistent position relative to the stock, reducing the shot-to-shot variation that comes from a barreled action shifting against a soft or loosely fitted bed. The barrel channel is cut to allow free-floating, so barrel harmonics during firing are not disrupted by contact pressure from the stock — a relevant consideration at extended range.
The buttstock is adjustable for both cheek riser height and length of pull. Cheek riser adjustment lets you align your eye correctly to the scope without shimming or improvised padding, which is worth doing before zeroing rather than after. Length of pull runs from 13.5 to 14.5 inches using a quarter-inch spacer system, giving you a full inch of adjustment to fit different shooters or layered cold-weather clothing. The forend uses M-LOK slots, so bipod mounts, sling anchors, and other accessories attach without adapters. Sling swivel studs are included at both ends. The Flat Dark Earth finish is MDT’s own FDE color, consistent across their lineup.
