Description
The Mossberg Patriot Carbine in .450 Bushmaster is built for hunters who need hard-hitting performance in close to mid-range timber and brush country, and for deer hunters in straight-wall cartridge states where centerfire rifle hunting is permitted only with specific case geometries. This is a working rifle designed around a practical use case, not a range target shooter.
The .450 Bushmaster cartridge drives a large-diameter, heavy bullet at moderate velocity, and the 1-in-24 twist rate is matched to the projectile weights that cartridge was designed around — typically 250- to 300-grain bullets. Deviating far outside that weight range will put you in diminishing-returns territory with this barrel, so it steers you toward the ammunition the round was always meant to use. The 18-inch threaded bull barrel keeps the overall package compact without giving up meaningful velocity for hunting distances, and the muzzle threading lets you mount a suppressor or muzzle brake without requiring any modification to the barrel itself.
The steel receiver comes with a Picatinny rail already in place, which means you mount an optic directly without an additional adapter — straightforward and with no loss of height consistency between swaps. There are no iron sights included, so an optic is not optional; plan that cost into the purchase. The MultiCam synthetic stock and Patriot Brown Cerakote finish on both the barrel and receiver are suited to field use in wet or heavy-brush conditions where a wood stock would absorb moisture and bare steel would show wear quickly. The stock is a fixed design rather than folding or adjustable, which keeps the action simple and the lockup solid. The trigger is Mossberg’s LBA, which is user-adjustable for pull weight without requiring a gunsmith.
