Otis built this 36-inch one-piece brass rod for shooters who want a dedicated bench or range tool capable of reaching through any long-gun barrel in a single pass — no sections to align, no joints to snag on a patch midstroke. Because the rod is solid rather than segmented, it transmits push and pull force directly and predictably, which matters when you are driving a tight-fitting jag through a fouled bore.

The brass construction is the key material choice here. Brass is softer than steel barrel rifling, so even if the rod makes incidental contact with the bore walls it will give before the steel does, protecting the rifling from the kind of scoring that a harder rod can leave behind. The surface carries a smooth, non-embedding coating that resists picking up abrasive particles — grit trapped in a rod finish is one of the more common causes of bore wear during cleaning.

The handle uses steel ball bearings to let the rod rotate freely as it travels through the bore. That rotation matters because it allows a brush or jag to follow the twist of the rifling rather than fight it, which improves contact with the lands and grooves and reduces the torque you put into the handle. The tip runs standard 8-32 threads, which is the common Otis thread pattern, so the rod accepts the full range of Otis brushes, mops, and jags without adapters.
