Description
The PWS MK116 Compound is built for shooters who want the mechanical reliability of a long-stroke piston system in a package that stays close to the AR-15 format they already know. Where a standard direct-impingement AR cycles gas back into the bolt carrier group, the PWS long-stroke piston system moves that gas-driven work to a piston that never contacts the receiver interior, which keeps carbon and heat out of the action and reduces the cleaning burden during sustained or high-volume shooting sessions.
The gas regulator offers three settings, letting the shooter tune dwell time for unsuppressed fire, adverse conditions, or ammunition that runs at the low or high end of pressure curves — a meaningful advantage over fixed-port systems where the only adjustment available is accepting what the manufacturer chose. The mid-length gas system, paired with a 16.1-inch barrel, produces a longer dwell time than a carbine-length setup would on the same barrel, translating to a slower, softer bolt impulse and reduced felt recoil without sacrificing velocity.
The 1:8 twist rate stabilizes the widest practical range of .223 Wylde projectiles — heavier match bullets in the 75–77 grain range seat and spin without overstabilizing lighter varmint loads that would suffer in a faster twist. The .223 Wylde chamber itself is dimensioned to extract full accuracy from both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO ammunition, where a SAAMI .223 chamber would require more conservative pressure headroom with military spec 5.56 rounds.
The upper is machined from forged 7075-T6 aluminum, the handguard runs an M-LOK pattern at 15.05 inches, and the ambidextrous MK1 Mod 2 lower accepts standard AR-15 components. The Radian Raptor charging handle and Magpul stock and grip come installed from the factory.
