The added half-inch of length in the CQG-L addresses a real-world fit issue: with a standard-length grip, shooters with larger hands often end up with their pinky partially off the bottom of the grip, which costs purchase and control under recoil. Extending the grip body solves that without changing anything about the upper geometry or the way the grip interfaces with the lower receiver.
