The M17 is Sig Sauer’s commercial version of the pistol adopted by the U.S. military under the Modular Handgun System program, and it suits shooters who want that pedigree in a configuration built for the civilian market. The platform is the P320 at its core — a striker-fired, modular design with a serialized fire control unit that sits inside a full-size polymer grip frame rather than being tied to a slide or frame as a serialized part. That modularity has practical consequences: the grip module can be swapped without tools, and the slide assembly is interchangeable across P320-family components.

The slide on this version carries a Coyote PVD finish over stainless steel and is cut to the Romeo-M17 optic footprint, so it accepts a direct-mount red dot without an adapter plate. The Siglite front and rear sights sit in that same slide and are designed to co-witness with a mounted optic, meaning you retain usable iron sights rather than giving them up when you add glass. The barrel wears a Black DLC coating, which is a hard carbon treatment applied to reduce friction and resist corrosion without adding meaningful thickness to the bore.

The manual thumb safety is ambidextrous and was part of the original military requirement — it gives shooters who prefer a positive on/off control the option without forcing it on those who would rather rely on the striker-fired trigger alone on a different variant.
