The P226 X-Five Nightmare is Sig Sauer’s competition-oriented take on the P226 platform, built for USPSA, IPSC, and precision pistol shooters who want a factory-tuned package rather than a pieced-together one. Where a standard P226 is a duty pistol optimized for reliability under field conditions, this variant trades that generalist brief for match-grade performance at the range.

The five-inch bull barrel adds sight radius and forward mass compared to the standard P226 configuration, which steadies the muzzle during rapid strings and helps manage recoil impulse. The single-action-only trigger — adjusted at the factory via the AX3 flat trigger system — removes the long double-action first shot that defensive P226 shooters manage around, giving competition shooters a consistent pull on every round. That consistency matters when stage times are measured in tenths of a second.

The optic-ready slide uses Sig’s SIG-LOC interface, which allows direct red dot mounting without a separate adapter plate — a practical advantage when zeroing a dot because there is no intermediate layer to introduce shift. Fixed night sights provide a reliable iron-sight backup. The Hogue G10 Nightmare grip panels include an integrated magwell that guides 20-round steel magazines into place faster under pressure. Three of those magazines ship with the pistol. The manual thumb safety positions the gun correctly for single-action competition rules that require it.
