Description
The Safariland Model 5198 is built for shooters who need a dependable outside-the-waistband holster that transitions cleanly between concealed carry and competition use. Its open-top, low-cut profile removes the mechanical barrier between hand and grip, so the draw stroke is consistent and unobstructed whether you’re running an IDPA stage or going about your day.
The shell is thermoformed from SafariLaminate, a layered construction that holds its molded shape over time without adding unnecessary bulk. Because the holster is formed precisely to the firearm rather than relying on generic sizing, the fit stays predictable. Retention is handled by two independent systems: a trigger guard detent that engages automatically on reholster, and an adjustable tension device you can tune to your preferred draw resistance. Neither requires a release motion, so there’s no thumb snap or button to index under pressure.
The 5198 ships with both an injection-molded paddle and a belt loop, so you can choose your mounting method without buying a separate attachment. The belt loop accommodates widths from 1.5 to 1.75 inches, covering most duty and competition belt setups. The paddle is designed for days when a belt isn’t part of the equation. Both attachments position the holster in a fixed orientation — this variant is right-hand draw, finished in STX Plain black.
The holster fits the Glock 17 and 22 with 4.5-inch barrels, the 19 and 23 with 4-inch barrels, and the 26, 27 with 3.78-inch barrels, making one holster usable across a broad range of common Glock configurations if you carry more than one of those pistols.
