Description

The Safariland Model 6378 is designed for plain-clothes carry and off-duty use, where a full-size duty holster would print or restrict movement. It suits armed professionals and concealed carriers who want more retention than a passive friction holster provides without the bulk of a Level III duty rig.

The core of the design is Safariland’s Automatic Locking System, or ALS. When the firearm seats fully, an internal locking device captures it without any manual step from the user. To draw, a swipe of the thumb across the release tab disengages the lock as the grip is established — the motion integrates naturally into a firing grip so it does not add a separate manipulation. That one-handed, thumb-driven release is the trade-off the ALS makes: it is faster to defeat intentionally than a strap or hood, but it provides positive mechanical retention rather than relying on fit tension alone.

The exterior shell is built from SafariLaminate, a proprietary hardened construction that holds its molded shape under daily wear and resists crushing that could bind the draw. The interior is lined with SafariSuede, a soft material that protects the front sight and the firearm’s finish from abrasion during holstering. The STX Tactical finish gives the outer surface a matte, non-reflective appearance suited to concealment contexts.

Fit covers the S&W M&P 9 and M&P 40 family, including M2.0 variants and the compact models. The holster ships with both a paddle attachment and a standard belt loop, so the carry platform can be changed without purchasing additional hardware. This right-hand configuration positions the holster for a standard strong-side draw.
