Description
The Safariland 6378 ALS Paddle Holster is built for outside-the-waistband carry of a Springfield Armory Operator, offering the kind of retention and draw speed that suits range work, duty use, or everyday carry where a paddle-mount platform makes sense. The body is thermal-molded from Safariland’s proprietary SafariLaminate, a process that produces a rigid shell fitted precisely to the Operator’s profile rather than a generic shape that relies on friction alone. Inside, a SafariSuede lining protects the pistol’s finish during holstering and reduces the abrasion that bare polymer can introduce over repeated draws.
Retention is handled by the Automatic Locking System, or ALS. When the pistol seats fully, an internal lock engages the slide automatically — no manual step required. To draw, the shooter sweeps a thumb lever forward to release the lock, then draws straight up. Because the motion is a single, natural thumb movement integrated into the draw stroke rather than a separate snap or button press, it tends to be faster to run under pressure than traditional retention hoods once the motion is trained. The trade-off is that it requires consistent grip technique; the thumb release must be reached cleanly before the pistol will move.
The paddle itself is contoured for hip carry and sits with a slight forward cant, which shortens the draw arc and pulls the grip closer to the body for better concealment under a cover garment. For users who prefer a belt loop over the paddle, the holster includes an optional belt loop attachment, making it practical to switch between carry configurations without buying a separate holster body. This variant is finished in STX Plain Black and is configured for right-hand draw.
