Description
The Safariland Species is an inside-the-waistband holster built around a SafariLaminate thermal-molded shell — a construction that layers materials together under heat so the finished holster holds its shape precisely around the Springfield Hellcat without softening over time the way a single-layer kydex piece can. The suede interior lining serves two purposes at once: it cushions the pistol’s finish against abrasion and tightens the overall fit so there is less play during draw. This matters most in appendix carry, where the holster sits close to the body and any looseness becomes noise or printing.
Retention is handled passively through the trigger guard — the shell geometry creates resistance on reholstering and draw without a mechanical lock to disengage under stress. An adjustable tension device lets the shooter dial in exactly how much resistance they want, independently of the trigger guard geometry. The mounting clip is both cantable and vertically adjustable, so the ride height and carry angle can be tuned to body shape and draw preference rather than fixed at whatever the factory setting happens to be. It fits a standard 1.5-inch belt.
The Species accommodates a range of miniature red dot optics, including the Romeo Zero, RMR CC, Shield RMS, Shield RMS-C, Swampfox Sentinel, Hex Wasp, Holosun 407K, Holosun 507K, J-Point, and Crimson Trace 1550, so the holster does not become obsolete if the shooter adds an optic to the pistol. This holster is cut specifically for the Springfield Hellcat with a 3-inch barrel and is right-hand only. It is non-light-bearing.
