Description
The Safariland Species is an inside-the-waistband holster built for concealed carry of the Sig Sauer P365XL. It is aimed at everyday carriers who want a purpose-fit holster rather than a universal design, and who carry right-handed. The fit is specific to the P365XL, which means the retention geometry follows the actual contours of that pistol rather than relying on a generic shell with adjustable tension screws doing most of the work.
The holster is constructed from laminate — a layered material that gives the shell dimensional stability so it holds its shape during and after the draw. That matters for re-holstering one-handed, since a shell that collapses on itself requires two hands to open. The STX Tactical Black finish is Safariland’s own tactical coating, applied over the laminate exterior, and it is distinct from their standard finish options in its matte, non-reflective character — appropriate for a concealment application where surface glare is worth avoiding.
Inside-the-waistband carry places the holster between the body and the waistband, trading some comfort margin for reduced print through clothing. The Species is designed with that tradeoff in mind: the IWB profile keeps the grip close to the body without requiring an extremely aggressive cant. Right-hand draw orientation is fixed in this variant, so left-handed carriers should look elsewhere. For P365XL owners who want a fitted, stable IWB option from a manufacturer with a long history in duty and concealment holster design, the Species is a straightforward, no-surplus-material choice.
