Description
The Safariland Species is an inside-the-waistband holster built around the S&W Shield Plus, designed for concealed carry where a slim profile and precise fit matter more than bulk. It is made from Boltaron, a thermoplastic that holds its molded shape through repeated draws and re-holsters without softening or deforming the way some softer materials can — an important detail for single-handed re-holstering, where the holster mouth needs to stay open on its own.
Retention is handled by an integrated passive trigger guard system, meaning the pistol locks in place through mechanical engagement with the trigger guard rather than any external strap or hood. The draw is clean and consistent, and no manual release step is required before drawing. A tension adjustment lets you dial the retention force to match your preference, which is useful if you find factory tension too stiff or too loose for your draw stroke.
The interior is suede-lined, which protects the finish of the pistol and dampens the slight rattle that bare polymer-on-polymer can produce during movement. The overall package is intentionally compact — smaller than many IWB designs — which reduces printing under a cover garment without sacrificing the structural rigidity that makes reliable re-holstering possible.
The Species is optic-compatible and accommodates a range of micro red dots including the Romeo Zero, RMR CC, Shield RMS, Shield RMS-C, Swampfox Sentinal, Hex Wasp, Holosun 407K, Holosun 507K, J-Point, and Crimson Trace 1550, so you are not forced to carry iron-sight-only to use an IWB holster. It ships in Black and is right-hand only in this configuration.
