The Broadsword L89 is Sons of Liberty Gun Works’ answer to a precision-oriented AR-15 built around the 6mm Max cartridge — a chambering that sits in a useful middle ground between the lighter .223/5.56 options and heavier long-range rounds, offering a meaningful step up in ballistic performance without requiring a completely different platform. It suits the shooter who wants a capable AR that can do serious work at distance while still running off a standard lower.

The mid-length gas system on the 16-inch 416 stainless steel barrel is a deliberate choice: compared to a carbine-length system on a barrel this size, it gives the gas more time to bleed off before the bolt unlocks, which softens the recoil impulse and reduces the bolt’s velocity rearward. That translates to less perceived snap and a gentler cycling pattern that is easier to stay on target with during follow-up shots. The barrel itself is Melonite-treated stainless steel, which combines the corrosion resistance of the stainless substrate with the surface hardness that QPQ nitriding adds.

On the lower, SOLGW fits an ambidextrous charging handle, an ambidextrous Quick Q safety, and an ambidextrous bolt release — making the entire manual of arms accessible without shifting grip for left- or right-handed shooters alike. The Liberty 2-Stage trigger is set at 4.5 pounds with a defined wall, a clean break, and a short reset, which rewards deliberate precision work. The A5 buffer system manages the longer dwell time of the mid-length setup and contributes to the smoother cycling feel. The 15.25-inch L89 M-LOK handguard keeps weight forward where it aids stability and provides two integrated QD sockets for sling attachment. The rifle ships with two 20-round SOLGW magazines and a soft case.
