Sitting in the second focal plane, the E3 reticle stays the same apparent size at every magnification, so the subtensions are calibrated for use at maximum power. That is the trade-off to understand with any SFP design: the wind and holdover marks are accurate at 10x, and at lower powers the reticle remains uncluttered and fast to acquire. The E3 provides BDC holdover marks at each 100-yard increment along the lower vertical wire, along with 5 and 10 mph crosswind reference marks, giving you a practical shooting solution without needing a separate ranging tool for common hunting distances.

The 42mm objective collects enough light to keep the image usable in the low-angle light typical of early and late hunting hours, and the illuminated reticle — driven by an LED with eleven brightness levels spanning day and night settings — lets you pick out the crosshair against a dark treeline or shaded hillside. The tube is machined from aircraft-grade aluminum, and the scope is waterproofed and fogproofed for field conditions. The Predator Diamond lens coating is Steiner’s own formulation, applied to maximize light transmission through the optical stack. Parallax is fixed, which keeps the control layout simple and removes one variable for shooters who set their magnification and leave it.
