The SureFire XR1-A is built around a specific problem: how do you carry a capable weapon light on a mid-sized concealment pistol without adding bulk that defeats the purpose of carrying concealed. The answer is a Mil-Spec hard-anodized aerospace aluminum housing that keeps the unit small enough for everyday carry while remaining durable enough to handle the repetitive stress of a defensive handgun’s recoil cycle. The recoil-proof LEDs are paired with SureFire’s parabolic reflector, which shapes the output into a smooth, rounded beam rather than a harsh hotspot — that matters in a defensive context because a more even beam gives you usable peripheral light, not just a bright center surrounded by darkness.

Rechargeability is handled through a quick-detach lithium polymer B13 battery. You pull the battery from the light, drop it into the included CH22 charging cradle, and the light itself never has to leave the weapon — a practical advantage when the gun is staged for home defense and you need to top off the battery without disturbing the setup. The mount uses four points of contact on a 1913 Picatinny rail, which provides more retention redundancy than a two-point design would under sustained recoil.

Switching is fully ambidextrous. Either rear toggle gives you momentary-on when held and constant-on with a quick tap; a center crossbar switch provides an additional path to constant-on for shooters who prefer a lateral push motion. That flexibility means you can find a grip and activation method that works with your existing trigger discipline without retraining muscle memory around a single-sided control.
