The Same Plane Flip Front Sight from Yankee Hill Machine is built for AR-platform shooters who want a reliable backup iron sight that doesn’t compromise their primary optic’s sight picture when stowed. The core design decision here is the same-plane geometry: the sight mounts at the same rail height as a standard rear sight, so both ends of your iron sight system sit at consistent elevation without requiring a riser or a non-standard rear to compensate. That alignment matters when you’re transitioning quickly from a magnified optic to irons under stress.

The entire sight body, including the base and stem, is constructed of steel rather than polymer — a choice that trades a small weight penalty for resistance to impact and heat that plastic alternatives simply cannot match in a structural sense. At 2.5 ounces, it’s not a featherweight accessory, but the tradeoff is a sight that won’t flex or deform under hard use. When folded flat, it measures 0.650 inches tall, keeping it clear of most scope objectives and low-profile enough that it won’t interfere with handguard real estate.

Deployment is spring-assisted: pressing a button releases the sight, which flips upright and locks positively in the deployed position. That lockup eliminates the sight-post movement that undermines accuracy with less robust designs. Elevation adjustment comes in 1/2 MOA increments using standard AR sight posts, and the hardware to get started is included. Mounting is handled by a thumb screw directly to Picatinny rail — no tools required for installation.
