Description
The MBUS 3 is Magpul’s attempt to take the best traits from two of their existing backup sight lines and combine them into a single, more practical package. The original MBUS was praised for its lightweight polymer construction, but its folded profile was relatively bulky. The MBUS Pro slimmed things down considerably but came at a higher price point and in metal. The MBUS 3 splits that difference: it uses the same impact-resistant polymer as the original MBUS, keeping weight low and cost reasonable, while borrowing the slimmer silhouette and enhanced front post design from the MBUS Pro.
That low folded profile matters in practical terms. When stowed, the sight sits close enough to the rail that it won’t interfere with gripping the handguard or snagging on gear, and it clears narrower rail sections without hanging over the edges. When you need it, a single press of the ambidextrous button deploys the sight under spring tension — no tools, no fiddling. The front post uses a dual-width design that gives you a thicker post for fast target acquisition and a narrower option for more precise work, and elevation can be adjusted without any tools on hand.
At standard AR height when deployed, the MBUS 3 pairs directly with any standard-height rear backup sight on a flat-top AR-platform rifle. The Flat Dark Earth finish matches Magpul’s established FDE color family, making it straightforward to coordinate with other FDE furniture on the same build. It mounts to MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rails and is manufactured in the United States.
