Description

Yankee Hill Machine’s two-piece carbine handguard is built for AR-15 owners running a Colt-pattern upper who want to swap out their factory plastic handguards without touching a gunsmith. The drop-in design works with the existing delta ring and end cap, so installation is a matter of pulling the old panels and seating these in their place. Colt carbines use a slightly different barrel journal dimension than standard mil-spec uppers, which is why YHM offers this as a dedicated variant rather than a universal fit — using the wrong handguard on a Colt-spec upper can result in a loose or non-functional fit.

The four-rail Picatinny layout runs the full perimeter, giving you attachment points at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. The bottom rail is designed to detach independently, which matters if you intend to mount an underbarrel accessory like a standalone launcher that needs clearance below the bore rather than a fixed rail in the way. The remaining three rails stay in place and will accept standard Picatinny-spec optics, lights, grips, and sling hardware without adapters.

Construction is 6061-T6 aluminum finished in hard-coat anodize, which gives the surface meaningful abrasion resistance without adding significant mass. At 6.625 inches, the handguard is sized to the carbine-length gas system profile, covering the gas block area appropriately without extending past the front sight base. The weight of 10.7 ounces is the honest cost of an aluminum quad-rail over polymer, but the trade is a stable, consistent platform for accessories that need repeatable zero retention across temperature and use cycles.
