The BCM MK2 Buffer Mod 1 T2 is built for AR-15 shooters who want a more controlled, consistent cycling impulse without sacrificing reliability. It is an intermediate-length buffer designed specifically to work within BCM’s MK2 Recoil Management System, and it is not a drop-in replacement for a standard carbine buffer — it must be paired with the BCM MK2 Receiver Extension and a Mil-Spec M16 rifle action spring. Using it with mismatched components is not a tuning shortcut; BCM warns it can damage the rifle and risk injury to the shooter.
The core design difference from a conventional carbine buffer is in how the internal counterweights move. Increased counterweight travel slows the bolt carrier’s rearward velocity more gradually, which reduces bolt bounce on the return stroke. That translates to a more consistent lockup timing and, by extension, more repeatable feeding and extraction across a wider range of ammunition and conditions. An internal spring keeps the counterweight positioned consistently and eliminates the metallic rattle that sometimes accompanies counterweight-style buffers during handling.
Rather than relying on a standard M4 carbine spring, the MK2 system uses an M16A4-pattern rifle spring, which has more coils than the carbine version. More coils spread the load over a longer stroke, smoothing the return force curve and widening the window in which the system cycles reliably — useful when running suppressed, with varying gas port pressures, or under adverse conditions. The buffer body is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and hard coat anodized. BCM holds US Patent 10415907 on this design.
