The short 8-inch barrel keeps the overall package tight without sacrificing the mechanical advantages of an AR-pattern action, and because 9mm operates at significantly lower chamber pressure than rifle cartridges, the felt impulse stays soft and predictable even at this barrel length.

CMMG’s Radial Delayed Blowback operating system is central to what makes this platform work. Rather than a direct blowback design — which would require a heavier bolt and buffer to manage the rearward force of an unsupported case — the radial delay bleeds off energy through a rotating bolt interface before the carrier fully cycles. The practical result is a lighter reciprocating mass and a recoil character that’s noticeably smoother than a conventional straight blowback 9mm build of comparable size.
