The EXPS3 is EOTech’s answer to a specific operational problem: how do you mount a full-featured holographic sight on a rifle already crowded with accessories, without sacrificing the controls or co-witness capability that professionals depend on? The side-mounted brightness buttons move the control interface off the top of the housing, freeing rail space forward and aft for pressure switches, lights, or a magnifier. That placement also keeps button access intuitive when the sight is run behind a magnifier, where top-mounted controls would be partially obscured.

The underlying technology matters here. Where a red dot projects an LED point onto a lens, EOTech’s holographic system records the reticle as a wavefront on the optical element itself. The practical result is that the reticle remains on target regardless of where your eye sits behind the optic — no need to center your pupil in a tube. That parallax-free characteristic, combined with the large viewing window, supports both-eyes-open shooting more naturally than a tube-style sight allows.

The 1 MOA center dot gives you a precise aiming reference without obscuring the target at distance, while the 68 MOA outer ring serves as a rapid close-range acquisition tool — you cage the threat in the ring and press, without hunting for the dot. Night vision compatibility extends the sight across 10 additional brightness levels below the 20 daylight settings, so the reticle dims enough to avoid blooming through a Generation I through III+ device. The integrated quick-detach lever rides on a 7mm raised base, which positions the sight for lower-third co-witness with standard AR-height iron sights — the irons sit at the bottom of the window rather than cutting through the center of the reticle.
