The EOTech HHS VI pairs the EXPS3-2 holographic sight with the G43 magnifier on a quick-detach STS mount, giving a shooter the flexibility to run the optic as a close-range 1x holographic or flip the magnifier into the optical path for extended engagement distances — without removing either unit from the rifle. That combination makes this system well suited to practical competition, patrol carbines, and range work where target distances vary significantly.
The holographic working principle matters here: unlike a standard red dot that projects a reticle onto a lens you look through, a holographic sight reconstructs the reticle image at the target plane using a laser transmission hologram. The result is that the reticle stays on-target regardless of eye position relative to the ocular, giving a wider tolerance for cheek weld and off-axis presentation — useful when shooting from barricades or unconventional positions. The AR223 Ballistic Reticle is built around .223/5.56 trajectory, giving the shooter holdover references calibrated to that cartridge rather than a generic dot arrangement.
The G43 magnifier works in conjunction with the EXPS3-2 rather than replacing it, so the reticle the shooter sees at 1x is the same reticle visible through magnification — no substituting optics, no rezeroing between configurations. The STS quick-detach mount lets the magnifier swing out of the optical path and return to zero repeatably, so transitioning between magnified and unmagnified use is handled with one hand. The EXPS3-2’s side-mounted battery compartment keeps overall length compact and allows the optic to sit further back on the rail than earlier EOTech configurations, preserving cheek weld and eye relief when used alongside the magnifier.
