Description

The Geissele Super 42 Braided Wire Buffer Spring and H2 Buffer Combo is a drop-in upgrade for shooters who want to address two of the most common complaints about stock AR-15 carbine buffer systems: spring noise and inconsistent cycling. The standard single-wire buffer spring vibrates as a single harmonic unit, producing the metallic twang audible through the stock during firing. The Super 42 uses three separate strands of wire braided together, drawing on the same principle as the German MG42’s recoil spring design. Because each strand can flex independently of the others, the assembly dissipates energy across multiple harmonic frequencies rather than concentrating it in one, which reduces that noise and smooths the felt impulse of the bolt cycling rearward.

The included H2 buffer is heavier than a standard carbine buffer, which slows the bolt’s rearward travel slightly. That added mass gives the gas system a moment longer to depressurize before the bolt fully clears the feed ramp, which can reduce felt recoil and improve feeding consistency — particularly in shorter-barreled carbines where dwell time is already limited. The spring and buffer are designed to function together as a matched set. This combo fits standard carbine-length receiver extensions only; it will not work in rifle-length or A5 buffer tubes. Geissele does not recommend this combination for use with 300 Blackout subsonic ammunition, as the added spring tension may prevent reliable cycling with lower-pressure loads.
