Description
The Strike Industries Carbine Flat Wire Spring is a direct replacement buffer spring for AR-15 carbine-length buffer tubes, aimed at shooters who want to tighten up the cycling feel of their rifle or pistol build without a complicated installation. The upgrade is a single drop-in part that requires no tools or modifications to the receiver extension.
The core engineering difference from a standard round-wire spring is the flat wire cross-section. A conventional coiled spring flexes unevenly under compression, which introduces lateral movement inside the buffer tube and the audible harmonic resonance — the characteristic AR twang — that follows the shot. The flat wire geometry contacts the tube walls more uniformly, reducing that side-to-side oscillation. The practical result is a reduction in system vibration between shots, which steadies the sight picture during rapid fire.
The spring is drawn from 17-7 PH stainless steel and then cryogenically stress-relieved. Cryogenic treatment reduces internal stresses left over from the forming process, which helps the spring maintain consistent rate and length over a high round count rather than taking a set and going soft. The increased bolt carrier load the spring produces — relative to a worn or lighter standard spring — keeps the carrier moving with enough authority to feed and eject reliably, though shooters running extremely light buffers in low-pressure configurations should verify function before field use.
Installation is straightforward: remove the existing spring, drop this one in, and reassemble. No buffer change is required, though pairing it with an appropriately weighted buffer for your gas system and ammunition remains good practice regardless of which spring you run.
