Description
The MBUS 3 is Magpul’s third-generation polymer backup iron sight, designed for shooters who run an optic as their primary and want a folding rear sight that stays out of the way until it’s needed. It is meaningfully slimmer and lower-profile than the original MBUS, which matters on builds where a red dot or magnified optic leaves little rail space to spare and where anything that snags or obstructs a sight picture is a liability.
Construction is impact-resistant polymer throughout, following the same material philosophy Magpul has used across the MBUS line — light enough that it doesn’t shift a rifle’s balance, durable enough to handle field handling. The aesthetic draws from the MBUS Pro, giving the sight a cleaner, more angular profile than its predecessors. When folded, it drops to just 0.44 inches in height, which keeps it from interfering with a co-witnessed or offset optic. A spring-loaded, ambidextrous push-button deploys the sight in one motion without requiring the shooter to reach across the rifle or break a firing grip.
Once up, the sight sits at standard AR height, meaning it indexes correctly with any AR-pattern front sight without any shimming or adjustment. The rapid-select aperture system lets the shooter switch between a smaller precision aperture and a larger aperture for faster close-range acquisition — a practical advantage when a single rifle covers both precision work and faster target transitions. This Flat Dark Earth version uses a non-gloss finish that avoids unwanted light signature in bright conditions. It fits any Picatinny-spec rail directly.
