The Sig Sauer Buckmasters riflescope is built around a specific problem that deer hunters face at distance: knowing exactly where to hold when a rangefinder gives you a number and your target isn’t standing still. The custom Bullet Drop Compensation reticle addresses this directly, with holdover reference points calibrated out to 500 yards. Rather than dialing elevation between shots, you identify the correct holdover dot and hold. That workflow matters most in a treestand or blind where time and movement are both limited.

The 50mm objective lens is the key optical trade-off in this design. A larger objective gathers more light than a smaller one would at the same magnification, which pays off in the low-contrast conditions that define dawn and dusk deer hunting. You give up some compactness and add modest weight at the front end, but the return is a brighter sight picture when shooting light is marginal and shots are most likely to present themselves.

The scope sits in a second focal plane configuration, meaning the BDC reticle subtensions are accurate at a specific magnification setting rather than scaling with the power ring. At 3x the reticle is usable for close cover and moving game; dialing to 9x gives you the resolution for precise hold selection at longer ranges, with the BDC holdovers calibrated for that end of the range. Adjustments run at 0.25 MOA per click for windage and elevation, giving fine enough resolution to zero precisely without chasing your adjustments. The scope is sealed against water and internal fogging, which matters in the wet conditions that autumn hunting seasons regularly produce.
