Description
The SIG516 G3 is built around a short-stroke piston operating system, which routes combustion gas through a separate piston rather than back into the bolt carrier group. The practical result is less carbon accumulation in the action and lower heat buildup at the bolt—meaningful advantages during sustained fire or when running a suppressor, where back-pressure and fouling are amplified. A three-position adjustable gas valve lets the shooter dial the system in for standard ammunition, low-pressure loads, or suppressed configurations without swapping parts.
The 16-inch cold hammer-forged barrel stabilizes projectiles through cold-working the steel rather than cutting it, which densifies the bore surface and extends service life under hard use. The 1:7-inch twist is optimized for heavier 5.56 projectiles—62-grain through 77-grain bullets stabilize reliably at that rate—though it handles standard 55-grain loads without issue. The threaded muzzle ships with SIG’s own flash hider compensator already installed, which addresses both flash signature and a portion of muzzle rise in a single device.
The free-floating M-LOK handguard keeps the barrel isolated from any attachment point except the receiver, so sling tension or a mounted bipod doesn’t introduce pressure that would shift point of impact. Fully ambidextrous controls—including bolt catch, magazine catch, safety, and non-reciprocating charging handles on both the rear and side—make the rifle workable without an adapter or aftermarket swap for left-handed shooters. The Matchlite Duo curved trigger is SIG’s production duty trigger, included from the factory rather than as an upgrade. The Bronze Cerakote finish covers the aluminum receiver and gives the rifle a visually distinctive appearance while providing a corrosion-resistant surface. One 30-round magazine is included.
