Description

The Safariland Model 5198 is built for two overlapping purposes: everyday concealed carry and defensive pistol competition. Its open-top, outside-the-waistband design keeps the draw path clear and unobstructed, which matters both at the range and in a self-defense context where a consistent, repeatable presentation is the goal.

Retention comes from a trigger guard detent paired with an adjustable tension device rather than a thumb break or strap, so there is nothing to swipe or release before the draw — the holster holds the pistol securely through movement and releases it cleanly when you pull straight up and out. The adjustable tension lets you tune that resistance to match your activity level or personal preference.

The body is thermoformed SafariLaminate, a construction that holds its molded shape under heat and daily use rather than softening or collapsing like some stitched leather designs can over time. The suede interior lining protects the pistol’s finish during holstering. The STX Plain exterior is scratch-resistant and gives the holster a low-profile matte appearance suited to concealment over a cover garment.

This model ships with both an injection-molded paddle and an injection-molded belt loop, so you can choose whichever mounting method fits your routine without buying separate hardware. The belt loop accommodates widths from 1.50 to 1.75 inches. The paddle allows the holster to be put on and removed without undoing your belt entirely. It is cut for right-hand draw, fits the Colt Government 1911, and carries IDPA and USPSA competition approval.
