Description
The Safariland 6390RDS is built for duty and range use where a red dot or optic sits mounted on the pistol — a configuration that most standard holsters simply cannot accommodate. The open-top muzzle end and the relieved sight channel in the body allow the holster to seat and retain optic-equipped Glocks without interference, so officers and shooters who run a miniature red dot don’t have to compromise their carry setup or swap between rigs.
Retention is handled by Safariland’s Automatic Locking System (ALS). When the pistol is holstered it locks automatically, requiring a thumb-actuated release before the draw — a deliberate motion that resists a grab from someone other than the wearer while still allowing a fast, trained draw. There is no secondary retention device to disengage, which keeps the draw stroke straightforward once the ALS release becomes muscle memory. The Level I designation reflects that single retention mechanism.
The mid-ride belt loop positions the pistol close to the body at a height that suits both uniformed patrol and plain-clothes carry where concealment under a cover garment is less of a priority than a consistent draw angle. The shell is finished in STX Tactical, Safariland’s textured matte black laminate, which resists glare and stands up to field use. This variant is cut for Glock 17 and Glock 22 frames and is configured for right-hand draw.
