Description

Suppressed shooting puts extra demand on an AR-15’s gas system. When a suppressor traps gas at the muzzle, back-pressure rises and the rifle cycles harder than it was designed to — producing heavier bolt carrier velocity, increased felt recoil, and more propellant gas venting back through the charging handle into the shooter’s face. The YHM Suppressor Gas Block addresses this at the source by restricting how much gas enters the system in the first place.

The gas port in this block measures 0.063 inches in diameter — roughly half the opening of a standard gas block. That smaller aperture meters gas more conservatively, slowing the bolt carrier’s rearward travel and reducing the pressure spike that causes port pop and blowback. The result is a more manageable recoil impulse and a cleaner shooting environment when firing behind a suppressor. Because the block is intended for hosts that will be run suppressed exclusively, the port is tuned for that condition; unsuppressed use will likely result in a firearm that short-strokes or fails to lock back on an empty magazine.

The 0.750-inch bore diameter fits the most common AR-15 barrel profile. The low-profile design sits beneath most free-float handguards without clearance issues, and a pair of set screws handles barrel retention. Machined from 4140 steel with a Black Oxide finish, the block is compact at under an inch in length and adds only 1.6 ounces. Because barrel gas port diameter, barrel length, caliber, and suppressor design all interact, some installations will require the user to open the port slightly to find the right balance for reliable cycling. YHM machines the port undersized intentionally so that fitting can go in only one direction — larger — without the possibility of overcorrecting in the field.
